Durbin’s Daughter Dead at 40

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) daughter Christine has died of complications from a congenital heart condition, Durbin’s office disclosed on Saturday. Christine Ann Durbin, 40, worked for 16 years in the Department of Agriculture Emerging Markets Program. She is survived by her husband, Marty Johnson, son Alex, Sen. Durbin and his wife, Loretta, brother Paul and sister Jennifer. The family was making funeral arrangements Saturday evening. It was unclear whether Sen. Durbin, who is facing an easy re-election, would suspend campaign activities in the coming days.
