Boehner to Outline Future

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) could announce as early as Wednesday whether he intends to run for re-election to his current leadership post, according to a source close to the top Republican.

Boehner has given every indication of running hard to hold on to his Minority Leader position, despite what are expected to be major losses tonight for the GOP. So far, no other Republican lawmaker has stepped up to mount a challenge, although there has been plenty of speculation that Chief Deputy Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) could take a shot at knocking Boehner out.

Other GOP aides and some Members, however, have said a rank-and-file Member could also enter the hunt in a “spontaneous combustion,” driven by unhappiness among the activist Republican base.
