Sen. Kit Bond (R-Mo.) would have a slim 4-point lead over Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan (D) if the election for his Senate seat were held today.

Bond led Carnahan, 47 percent to 43 percent, among 600 likely voters surveyed by Research 2000 from Dec. 2-4. The poll, paid for by the liberal Web site Daily Kos, had a margin of error of 4 points.

The poll also showed Bond with an approval rating of 49 percent, with 43 percent of respondents disapproving of the Republican. Carnahan had a 48 percent approval rating, with 26 percent of respondents expressing disapproval of the statewide-elected Democrat.

Carnahan is viewed as Democrats’ top recruiting prospect against Bond, who has indicated he is running for re-election in 2010. She is the sister of Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-Mo.) and the daughter of former Sen. Jean Carnahan (D-Mo.), who was appointed to the Senate seat that was won but never assumed by her husband, the late Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan (D-Mo.).
