Four California Members Set to Back Poizner For Governor

California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner’s (R) 2010 gubernatorial bid is expected on Friday to receive the backing of four Congressional Republicans in the Golden State delegation, according to sources.

Poizner, a multimillionaire, is set to receive endorsements from California Republican Reps. John Campbell, Elton Gallegly, Jerry Lewis and Gary Miller.

All four Members represent Southern California districts. If Poizner wins the June 2010 gubernatorial primary, he will headline the November ticket for the GOP, along with whoever ends up as the GOP Senate nominee against Sen. Barbara Boxer (D).

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) is term-limited and cannot seek re-election. Whether a Republican or Democrat succeeds Schwarzenegger in 2011 could determine the course of the next round of redistricting.

The new House map is set to debut in the 2012 elections.
