Here’s an Inaugural Va Va Voom

While Washington, D.C., will be alive with all sorts of inaugural celebrations this weekend, very few of them will involve pasties.

That’s where the Warehouse Theater’s “Obama Wonderama” comes in. Sunday night’s show will include acts that range from burlesque dances to Coney Island-style sideshows. Many of the acts will use an inaugural theme, with patriotic pasties among other accessories. There is also a rumor that the “president-elect” — or his impersonator — will make an appearance.

Four hosts will lead three sets of performances. Top performers “Dr. Lucky” (who claims to have a Ph.D. in burlesque and culture), “Clams Casino” (who won Miss Exotic World 2008’s Most Humorous and Most Innovative awards) and “L’il Dutch” (who normally performs the Dutch Oven Burlesque at the Palace of Wonders) are to perform their acts. Burlesque performances will range from D.C. to New York style and will also vary from modern to classic. Other notable performances will be the Cheeky Monkey Sideshow Swami Yomahmi’s act and a hypnotist act that will involve audience participation.

In between performances, a DJ will play music and hosts will raffle off prizes from local restaurants, artists and bars. The audience will also be able to visit the theater’s art gallery, which will remain open during the shows.

Advance tickets may be purchased for $25 through the theater’s Web site, warehousetheater.com, or by calling 202-783-3933. Tickets will be $30 at the door. Doors will open at 8 p.m., with performances beginning at 9 p.m. and ending at 2 a.m. The Warehouse is located at 1021 Seventh St. NW.
