Obama: Stimulus Is on Track

President Barack Obama on Friday said Congress appears to be “on target” to complete consideration of an economic recovery package by his Presidents Day deadline.

Obama, who spoke at the White House at the opening of a meeting with the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional leadership, commended lawmakers for working “diligently” on the legislation, which was originally supposed to be completed by his inauguration. Obama also thanked the Senate for moving “expeditiously” on his nominations, which are still not finished.

Obama asserted that the recovery package is but one leg of an “at least three-legged stool” that will be needed to support the economy. He pledged to address Congressional concerns about the Treasury Department’s management of the TARP money, which many believe has been spent in questionable ways and without transparency.
