Pelosi Dismisses Idea of Second Stimulus

Appearing to retreat from comments made earlier this week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday threw cold water on plans for advancing a second economic stimulus package.“It’s just not something that, right now, is in the cards,— Pelosi said.Pelosi caused a stir on Tuesday when she told reporters that she is keeping “the door open— to moving another stimulus package in addition to a recently passed $787 billion stimulus measure. House Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) has since indicated that he has started work on a second recovery plan. Pelosi suggested Thursday that anything Obey is putting together will surface in his committee as part of regular order, as opposed to being crafted behind closed doors by Democratic leaders. “The House Appropriations Committee is ever-vigilant. They’re always ready to pass legislation,— the Speaker said. “My preference is that any appropriating that we do henceforth begin with regular order.—
