New Ads Urge Five Blue Dogs to Support Budget

As the House Budget Committee gets set to mark up President Barack Obama’s budget proposal, USAction is launching a relatively small TV ad buy that targets five fiscally conservative Democrats who serve on the panel in an effort to get them on board with the president’s spending plan.

USAction, which is a leading member of a coalition of liberal interest groups, will be broadcasting ads in the districts of Democratic Reps. Marion Berry (Ark.), Allen Boyd (Fla.), Charlie Melancon (La.) Bob Etheridge (N.C.) and Chet Edwards (Texas). All five men are members of the Blue Dog Coalition of fiscally conservative Democrats.

The USAction ads began airing Wednesday morning and will continue running for the rest of the week on cable and local TV network affiliates.

“When it comes to creating and protecting jobs, Congressman Boyd has always stood up for the people of Florida,— a narrator in the ad targeting the Florida Democrat. “But now the special interests in Washington are squeezing him to oppose the president’s budget. Call Congressman Boyd. Tell him to stand up to the special interests and stand with the working people of Florida. Tell him to support President Obama’s budget.—
