Collins Named to Top RNC Political Post

Gentry Collins has been named the new political director at the Republican National Committee, RNC Chairman Michael Steele announced today.Collins, a who hails from Iowa, was a regional campaign manager on Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) 2008 presidential campaign and is a former executive director of the Republican Party of Iowa. Before directing McCain’s Midwest campaign efforts, he served as the national political director for the Republican Governors Association and as an assistant to former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (Texas).Steele, who took over the committee at the end of January, is starting to beef up his staff after a tumultuous first few weeks as chairman. His latest hiring comes on the back of tapping Ken McKay to serve as chief of staff and Trevor Francis as communications director.
