Buchanan’s Dodge Dealership Is on the Chopping Block

Rep. Vern Buchanan’s (R) Dodge dealership in Venice, Fla., could be one of nearly 800 Chrysler outlets forced to shut its doors, according to bankruptcy documents filed by the automaker Thursday.

The Florida Republican’s dealership is listed first on a 41-page proposal filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York that would reduce Chrysler’s dealership count by nearly 25 percent.

The Dodge dealership is owned by Buchanan Automotive, which also operates Ford, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi dealerships.

Buchanan, who ranked No. 6 on Roll Call’s most recent “50 Richest Members of Congress— list with a net worth of about $65.49 million, founded the automotive group in 1994, according to a press release on the company’s Web site.
