HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Swing and a Hit

Of all the perks of being a Member of Congress, this is among the coolest we’ve seen: You get to talk a little baseball — and people listen.

[IMGCAP(1)]Sen. Jon Tester provided color commentary during Tuesday night’s matchup between the Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, joining Fox Sports Northwest’s Dave Sims and Mike Blowers in the broadcast booth during the bottom of the fourth inning and top of the fifth.

The Montana Democrat and his family are longtime fans of the Emerald City ball club since the Mariners are the closest team to his hometown of Big Sandy, Mont.

“If you’re from north-central Montana, there’s a pretty good chance you’re a Mariners fan,— Tester said. “I’ve spent countless hours listening to these games on the radio in my tractor over the years.—

Tester’s baseball broadcast aired on local affiliates in the upper northwest. Before the game, Tester said he hoped to watch Mariners catcher Rob Johnson in action, since the player grew up in Butte, Mont. Unfortunately, Johnson didn’t play on Tuesday because of a bruised foot.

And sadly for Tester, the game did not turn out in his favor, either: The Orioles beat the Mariners, 3-1.
