Jefferson Arguments Begin on Tuesday

With jury selection completed, opening arguments are set to begin Tuesday in the corruption trial of ex-Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.), the Louisiana Times-Picayune reported Thursday.The jury of 12 includes eight women and four men, and an additional three men and one woman will serve as alternates on the panel, the Times-Picayune reported. Jefferson is charged in a 16-count indictment with violating federal law by offering and accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to promote business ventures in West African nations. He is on trial in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
