Former Rep. Christopher Shays misses his old job — but according to an Associated Press profile of his post-Congress outlook, not because it was most people’s idea of a fun time.

[IMGCAP(1)]The AP story reveals that the 10-term Connecticut Republican had his nose so firmly to the grindstone while in Washington, he missed out on what draws most people to the city.

“In 21 years I didn’t go to a museum in Washington. I worked in Washington,— he said. “I think I went to the zoo once because I took some family members.—

Shays is “overcoming his disappointment and dismay— over losing his re-election bid and discovering that an aide allegedly embezzled campaign money, the story says. He’s selling his Connecticut and Washington, D.C., homes and plans to set up house in St. Michaels, Md.

Here’s hoping he’ll finally have time to take in an afternoon at a gallery.
