HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Bet Your Bottom Euro

It’s not quite Vegas, but get ready to place your bets — Dublin-based bookmakers Paddy Power have set the odds on potential career moves for outgoing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

[IMGCAP(1)]For example, the Irish bookies quote 3-1 odds that the Republican will become the next Senator from Alaska and 20-1 odds that Palin will organize “a Miss World for the over 40s.—

Other career options: Palin will start her own religion (25-1 odds), become CEO of Wal-Mart (100-1 odds), become the next Pope (1,000-1 odds) and be abducted by aliens (10,000-1 odds).

Paddy Power — which paid $1.3 million in winning bets that Barack Obama would win the presidency three weeks before the 2008 presidential election — has more faith in Palin’s political career.

The outfit set short 2-5 odds that she’ll run for the presidency in 2012, 5-1 odds that she’ll win the Republican nomination and 10-1 odds that she’ll make it to the White House.

In a statement, the bookmakers urge those placing bets not to count Palin out of politics. “Sarah was never one to shy away from controversy and she faced a lot of challenges in the last presidential campaign so [we’re] pretty sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear from her,— the statement reads.

Paddy Power also has quoted odds for the eventual winner of the 2012 presidential election, giving the victory to Obama with 4-5 odds. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is next, with 7-1 odds that the Republican will make it to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
