In Florida, Republican state Rep. Dorothy Hukill on Monday announced she has filed to run against Democratic Rep. Suzanne M. Kosmas in 2010.

“Our current congresswoman promised the residents of District 24 she was going to be responsible with their money, and since she’s gone there, she’s voted for trillions in government spending,” Hukill told CQ Politics. She added that her state legislative district overlaps 20 percent of the 24th Congressional District.

Republicans have been reaching out to prospective candidates to challenge freshman Kosmas. Now, it appears Republicans will be forced to deal with a GOP primary fight in Florida’s 24th District, potentially complicating a race regarded as one of their top pickup opportunities in the House.
