Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has dodged a bullet. According to the Associated Press, six people were shot Wednesday night at a “family block party— that the Texas Democrat attended.

[IMGCAP(1)]The gunfire came from a drive-by shooter who sprayed bullets at the crowd gathered on the Texas Southern University campus for an event honoring Houston rapper Trae, according to the report.

Jackson Lee and Houston City Councilman Peter Brown made appearances at the event “before the violence,— the AP says. Police believe gang rivalry might have been behind the shootings, and the Congresswoman has not commented to news organizations on the incident.

Jackson Lee’s musical tastes seem to be landing her in hot water of late — before the shooting at the Houston event, dubbed “Trae Day— in honor of the popular rapper, she had drawn criticism for speaking at the funeral of the late pop star Michael Jackson and for promoting legislation honoring the controversial entertainer.
