Morning Business: Sotomayor Faces Next Test
By John Stanton
Posted July 27, 2009 at 6:15pmThe Senate Judiciary Committee will meet at 10 a.m. today to vote on the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. Members are expected to approve the nomination on a largely party-line vote, sending the matter to the full Senate for consideration.
[IMGCAP(1)]All the committee’s Democrats have said they will vote to approve her nomination, and only one of the panel’s Republicans — Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) — has said he will support it.
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is expected to schedule floor debate on the nomination next week with a final vote coming before Senators leave for the August recess. Sotomayor is expected to be confirmed by the full Senate by a healthy margin.
