Morning Business: Sotomayor Faces Next Test

The Senate Judiciary Committee will meet at 10 a.m. today to vote on the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. Members are expected to approve the nomination on a largely party-line vote, sending the matter to the full Senate for consideration.

[IMGCAP(1)]All the committee’s Democrats have said they will vote to approve her nomination, and only one of the panel’s Republicans — Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) — has said he will support it.

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is expected to schedule floor debate on the nomination next week with a final vote coming before Senators leave for the August recess. Sotomayor is expected to be confirmed by the full Senate by a healthy margin.
