Correction: Connecticut last elected a Democrat as governor in 1986, when William A. O’Neill won a second term; Lowell P. Weicker Jr., a former Republican senator, was elected in 1990 as a third-party candidate, and Republicans have held the seat since the 1994 election. The original story said the GOP had held the seat since 2004.
