Armed Services Approves McHugh as Army Secretary

The Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved the nomination of Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.) for secretary of the Army.McHugh, who testified before the panel last week, is expected to easily pass the full Senate when his nomination goes to the floor. It is unclear whether the chamber will take up his appointment before adjourning Friday for the August recess.The Republican lawmaker stepped down from his ranking member post on the House Armed Services Committee after being tapped by President Barack Obama for the secretary job on June 2.A date for a special election to replace the outgoing Republican has not yet been set.
