HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Rich Get Richer

Some guys have all the luck. Rep. Jared Polis won a cool $3,125 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, which we’re sure made a lovely (yet imperceptible) addition to his multimillion-dollar fortune.

[IMGCAP(1)]The Colorado Democrat, who is worth at least $71 million, reported the winnings in his 2008 financial disclosure forms, which HOH just stumbled across, since it’s August recess and there’s not much better to do.

The whole rich-guy-wins-big script reminds us of when Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), who’s no slouch in the personal wealth department himself, raked in $853,000 in winnings from a Powerball ticket in 2005.

Sigh — HOH is just happy to score a buck or two in scratch-off lotto tickets.

An Engaging Rumor. Sounds like there could be wedding bells for Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite. A St. Petersburg Times’ blog is reporting that the local rumor mill has the Florida Republican engaged to widower and businessman Tony Selvaggio.

The report says Brown-Waite’s office wouldn’t return calls seeking comment, but quotes witnesses who’ve spotted the Congresswoman sporting a “big rock.—

Brown-Waite’s husband of 30 years died in August 2008 of pancreatic cancer.
