She’s a wholesome, beloved star of feel-good romantic comedies. He’s a disgraced ex-Congressman likely heading to jail for bribery. Despite their dissimilarities, actress Sandra Bullock and former Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) have a connection.
[IMGCAP(1)]Here’s the less-than-six-degrees separating the two: The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Wednesday that Bullock bought a home in New Orleans’ famed Garden District. The “Speed— star purchased the luxe pad from entrepreneur John Russell Lee Sr., whose software business featured prominently in the trial of Mose Jefferson, the Congressman’s brother.

Mose Jefferson last month was convicted of bribing a New Orleans school official to get Lee’s educational software into local classrooms. The Times-Picayune notes that “During the trial, former U.S. Rep Bob Livingston testified that he secured a Congressional earmark to help get the program in schools, then became a lobbyist for the software days after resigning from Congress.—
OK, so Bullock probably won’t be inviting the former Congressman to her next movie premiere, but the purchase brings them closer than their previous connection: Bullock played an undercover FBI agent in the “Miss Congeniality— flicks and Jefferson’s office was raided by the FBI.
