Obama Speech to Prompt Numerous Capitol Hill Road Closures

Capitol Police will begin restricting access to the “Capitol Square— at 6 p.m. Wednesday in preparation for President Barack Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress.The square encompasses all the House and Senate buildings, roughly stretching from D Street on the north side of the Capitol to C Street on the south side. It also includes the Capitol Reflecting Pool to the east and the Supreme Court to the west. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said that starting at 6 p.m., the area will only be accessible to law enforcement personnel and those “authorized— to be at the joint session. At 6:30 p.m., police will start restricting vehicles from the surrounding streets.
