Kennedy Children Are Speaker’s Guests Tonight

The late Sen. Edward Kennedy’s (D-Mass.) children will serve as Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) special guests during President Barack Obama’s speech Wednesday night on health care reform.Pelosi will host Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.), Ted Kennedy Jr. and Kara Kennedy as well as her two children, Grace and Max. Vicki Kennedy, the late Senator’s widow, will also be in attendance. Kennedy, who died on Aug. 25 after a 15-month battle with brain cancer, was long a champion of health care reform, an issue he called “the cause of my life.— Democrats are hoping Obama’s Wednesday address carries enough magnitude to sway public opinion in favor of reforming the system.But the GOP response to Obama’s speech will be delivered by Rep. Charles Boustany (R-La.), Vicki Kennedy’s cousin.Other guests of Pelosi’s will include her husband, Paul; San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom; Ambassador and former Rep. Lindy Boggs (D-La.); and Rosalyn Frazier, a Florida resident who runs local health care centers that benefited from economic stimulus legislation.Several groups will also be represented in Pelosi’s section. Guests include Andy Stern of Service Employees International Union, Ron Pollack of Families USA, John Arensmeyer of Small Business Majority and Susan Axelrod, president of Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy and the wife of Obama chief strategist David Axelrod.Former Speaker Tom Foley (D-Wash.) will also be a guest of Pelosi’s, although he will not be seated in her section.
