Hoyer to Huddle With Obama

President Barack Obama on Thursday afternoon will meet at the White House with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), according to a source knowledgeable about the meeting. The meeting is expected to be a one-on-one session and to focus on health care but also cover several other issues before Congress.Hoyer’s meeting with Obama comes just a day after the president huddled with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and comes on the same afternoon that Obama is set to meet with Senate Democratic centrists. It comes on the heels of the president’s joint address to Congress in which he appealed for quick action on health care reform. In addition to being the No. 2 House Democrat, Hoyer is an ally of fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats, who are key to Democratic efforts to pass a health care package this year.
