HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Are You Ready for Some Football?

While Washingtonians might be hoping and praying (and, well, dreaming) that this could be a big year for their hometown Washington Redskins, some Members of Congress are using the team’s home games as an opportunity to raise some campaign cash.

[IMGCAP(1)]Several Members have scheduled fundraising events to be held during Redskins’ matchups at FedEx Field in Landover, Md., starting with a fundraiser for Rep. Gregory Meeks this Sunday. Individuals can pay $500 (political action committees, $1,500) to join the New York Democrat at the team’s home opener against the St. Louis Rams, according to an invitation for the event.

Other Members who have money-raising events scheduled to be held at Redskins home games include Reps. John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), who will host fundraisers when the team takes on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Oct. 4. And Reps. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) have fundraisers scheduled for the Redskins’ Oct. 18 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
