Snowe to Support Finance Health Bill

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) announced Tuesday afternoon that she would vote in favor of the Finance Committee’s health care reform bill, despite lingering reservations about the package.Snowe said her vote on the $829 billion Finance measure should not be misinterpreted as a “yes— vote on the health care reform bills that the Senate has yet to consider. The Finance package is set to be merged with a previously passed, more liberal Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee bill. Rather, Snowe said her vote Tuesday is an affirmation of her desire to “continue the process.—“Is this bill all that I would want? Far from it,— Snowe said, as the Finance panel debated final passage of its amended bill. “But when history calls, history calls.—Finance is expected to vote on the health package later this afternoon. Snowe’s “yes— vote is a victory for Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.), who has pressed hard to earn some form of bipartisan support for his legislation.
