Corrine Brown Chooses Re-Election Over 2010 Senate Race

Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.), who had created an exploratory committee to run for Senate in 2010 but had not taken concrete steps to run, announced Friday that she would seek re-election to the House.“In these difficult times, I can use my position in the House to do even more to help my constituents,— Brown said in a statement.Brown represents a Jacksonville-based district and should be a shoo-in for a 10th term.“From providing health care for everyone to helping create jobs and stimulating economic development to protecting our beautiful beaches and coastline from the drill-first-and-ask-questions-later crowd, I am in a unique position to fight more effectively than ever for northeast and central Florida,— she said.Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-Fla.) remains the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination in the open-seat Senate race, though former Miami Mayor Maurice Ferre (D) just got into the race earlier this week.On the Republican side, Gov. Charlie Crist is the favorite in the August 2010 primary, though he faces a spirited challenge from former state Speaker Marco Rubio (R). In an effort to counter Rubio’s strength among conservatives, Crist went up with two radio ads Friday that criticize President Barack Obama for federal spending.“I believe I could have defeated Charlie Crist,— Brown said in her statement, “because substance always trumps photo-ops, but right now I need to look after my constituents.—
