Reid to Spend Brief Recess Fundraising

After participating in a Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was scheduled to hit the road for the remainder of the week to raise campaign cash for his 2010 re-election bid.

Reid, who hopes to bring health care reform legislation to the Senate floor next week, faces the prospect of a tough midterm contest. Public polling this year has shown the Majority Leader with low approval ratings among Nevada voters.

The surveys also revealed relatively unknown Republican candidates to be leading Reid in early ballot tests. Reid, a top Republican target next year, closed the third quarter with $8.7 million in cash on hand.

The Senate is in recess from Wednesday to Friday in honor of Veterans Day and is scheduled to reconvene Monday for a full week. Reid has said he plans to kick off debate on a sweeping health care reform bill next week.
