Spokesman: McCain Talked to Carney About Party Switch

A spokesman for Rep. Christopher Carney (D-Pa.) confirmed Wednesday that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) talked to Carney recently about the possibility of switching parties and becoming a Republican.The revelation comes one day after another Democratic Congressman sitting in a conservative district, Rep. Parker Griffith (Ala.), announced that he was leaving the Democratic Party to join the GOP.Josh Drobnyk, Carney’s spokesman, would provide no other details, except to say that McCain reached out to the Congressman about the possible switch.McCain is a decorated former Naval officer, and Carney is a Navy reservist who was assigned to the Pentagon as an intelligence analyst after the 9/11 attacks. McCain took 54 percent of the vote last year in Carney’s NortheastPennsylvania district, even as Carney was winning a second term with 56percent.Carney won his first term in 2006 by ousting scandal-plagued Rep. DonSherwood (R-Pa.).
