President Barack Obama will meet Tuesday night with top Democratic Congressional leaders at the White House and via teleconference to discuss health care, according to White House officials. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) will be with Obama at the White House, while Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) will check in via conference call. The session will follow an afternoon meeting between Obama and relevant agency chiefs to discuss the security failures that allowed a terrorist with explosives to board an airliner bound for Detroit on Christmas Day. Obama is scheduled to make remarks after a meeting with agency leaders but before the session with the Congressional Democrats. Vice President Joseph Biden will be in both meetings.
