President Barack Obama will meet at the White House Wednesday afternoon with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and a group of key House committee leaders involved in health care talks. The meetings come as the White House and Congressional leaders step up preparations for moving this year’s legislative agenda. A meeting between Obama and the top Democratic Congressional leaders Tuesday was billed as a meeting about health care, but it also delved into other topics.Joining Obama and Pelosi in the Cabinet Room will be Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.); Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.); Education and Labor Chairman George Miller (D-Calif.) and Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.).Obama on Tuesday had vowed to boost the White House’s involvement in health care reform negotiations as the House and Senate seek to craft a final bill that can pass Congress this winter.
