Gibbons Pins Down $200,000 For Iowa Match

Jim Gibbons (R), a financial adviser and former college wrestling coach, raised $207,000 in his first six weeks as a candidate in Iowa’s 3rd district.

Gibbons, who is one of five Republicans challenging seven-term Rep. Leonard L. Boswell (D) in the Des Moines-area district, said in a campaign statement that he raised 93 percent of his early funds from individuals and 7 percent from political action committees (PACs).

Gibbons raised the money between mid-November, when he announced his candidacy, and the end of December. Candidates for Congress by Jan. 31 must file detailed campaign reports itemizing their receipts and expenditures for the final three months of 2009.
