Lawson Posts Just $28,000 for Fourth Quarter

State Senate Minority Leader Al Lawson, who is challenging Florida Rep. Allen Boyd in the 2nd district Democratic primary, informed supporters on Friday that he had raised $28,000 during the fourth quarter of 2009.

While Lawson celebrated that fundraising figure in a campaign release it certainly won’t do much to scare the well funded Boyd, who had $1.7 in cash on hand as of the end of September and has yet to release his latest fundraising totals.

Lawson’s fourth quarter fundraising probably wasn’t helped by statements he made in early December that he was considering abandoning his bid to run for statewide office. Lawson later said he was committed to challenging Boyd.
