Virginia: Hurt Takes In $293,000 to Take On Perriello

Virginia state Sen. Robert Hurt (R), a leading candidate for the seat of Rep. Tom Perriello (D), raised $293,000 in the final two months of 2009, according to his campaign.

Hurt became a candidate in early October but began soliciting donations in early November, after Virginia’s statewide and legislative elections. His campaign said he raised more than 80 percent of his funds from Virginia donors.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has been promoting Hurt, who faces six opponents in the June 8 primary.

Laurence Verga (R), a real estate investor, reported earlier this month that he raised $288,000 through the end of 2009, most of which came in the form of personal loans or contributions from the candidate.
