Former NFL Player Poised to Enter Race Against Lincoln

Republican Senate candidates appear to be coming out of the woodwork in Arkansas, where Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D) is one of the most vulnerable incumbents seeking re-election this fall.A source close to wealthy real estate developer Jim Lindsey (R) said Wednesday evening that the former Minnesota Vikings football player is in the final stages of launching his bid to win the GOP Senate nomination.Lindsey would join a crowded field that is expected to soon include Rep. John Boozman (R). Nine other Republicans, including state Sens. Gilbert Baker and Kim Hendren, are also in the race.Lindsey, whose company Lindsey & Associates has offices in Fayetteville, Rogers and Bella Vista, is also a former member of the University of Arkansas board of trustees.Lincoln is set to report having $5 million in cash on hand at the beginning of January, but Lindsey would have the personal resources and fundraising connections to compete and match her in a multimillion-dollar campaign.
