Hill Talk: Capitol Hill Bikes Is Back on Barracks Row
Just six weeks after it officially closed its previous location, Capitol Hill Bikes is back — and it hasn’t gone very far.
The well-established bike shop, previously at 709 and 705 Eighth St. SE, reopened at 719 Eighth Street SE, on the same block as its old home on Barracks Row.
“It’s about five doors down, and it actually is a space we had rented once before,” co-owner Denise D’Amour said. “We had expanded to this location with just our service location a few years ago.”
The space had not been rented since Capitol Hill Bikes vacated it, D’Amour said, so the business moved back in and recently celebrated its grand reopening.
Reopening during the District’s snow emergency caused some delays in getting inventory stocked, D’Amour said, but she added that the store normally does brisk business, even in February.
“When it’s not a blizzard, we have a fairly decent commuter trade with people who are cycling to work,” she said.
Capitol Hill Bikes is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the week, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
This week Capitol Hill Bikes is celebrating its 10th anniversary, so anyone who spends $50 in the store will get a free Capitol Hill Bikes water bottle.
