Hoyer to Campaign in Delaware

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) will raise money Wednesday for the campaign of former Delaware Lt. Gov. John Carney, a rare Democrat favored to win a Republican-held seat this fall.

AMERIPAC, Hoyer’s leadership political action committee, said in a release that Hoyer and Carney would “meet with business leaders from the Wilmington area to discuss job creation and economic development” prior to holding a fundraiser in Wilmington.

Hoyer’s PAC already has given the maximum $10,000 contribution to Carney’s campaign.

Carney began campaigning last spring for the seat of Rep. Mike Castle (R), who is running for Senate, and he raised $715,000 through the end of 2009. Republicans have not yet landed a strong candidate even though Castle is an early favorite to win the Senate race.
