Idaho: Five Republicans Going After Minnick’s Seat

Rep. Walt Minnick (D) has drawn five Republican opponents.

Minnick did not draw opposition in the May 25 Democratic primary even though liberal activists don’t like his conservative-leaning voting record.

Here’s the lineup of Republicans who want to be the one to take him on in the fall: former Senate aide Vaughn Ward, state Rep. Raul Labrador, frequent candidate Harley Brown, former Senate aide Michael Chadwick and Allan Salzberg, a physician and rocket scientist.

Labrador’s backers include former Rep. Bill Sali (R), who was defeated by Minnick in 2008.

Rep. Mike Simpson (R), who’s seeking a seventh term representing the 2nd district, drew three primary opponents: state Rep. Russ Mathews, political unknown Katherine Burton and Vietnam veteran M.C. Chick Heileson, a water company licensed operator.
