Reichert Hospitalized, Undergoes Surgery

Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) on Wednesday underwent surgery to address a chronic subdural hematoma, according to a statement from his office.

Reichert admitted himself to the George Washington University Hospital on Wednesday after feeling ill, the statement said.

“The procedure was successful, and he is expected to make a full and complete recovery,” according to the statement. “The Congressman is resting comfortably and will be discharged in a few days — but doctors will not allow him to leave for any votes.”

A chronic subdural hematoma occurs when “old” blood cells gather on the surface of the brain, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Reichert’s office said the condition was likely the result of a minor head injury.
