HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Senatorial Supermodel
Wholesome Sen. Amy Klobuchar is showing off her fierce side — the Minnesota Democrat works it in the new issue of fashion magazine Elle, dishing on everything from life as a politician to being a working mom to walking into the Senate men’s room on her first day in office.
[IMGCAP(1)]HOH hears Klobuchar even got to take part in a glamorous photoshoot for the spread. But the main picture the magazine ended up using, we hear, was shot when the Senator was on the telephone attending to some less-than-glamorous Senatorial duties.
Klobuchar is dubbed a potential White House contender by the magazine, and the lengthy feature story spends plenty of time studying her political career. There’s lots of humor as well, as Klobuchar recounts how she walked into the men’s room in the Hart Senate Office Building on her first day in office and discovered it’s “twice as big as ours and has a shoeshine chair!”
Klobuchar also touches on her husband, John, who is one of the most active members of the Senate spouse club, noting that she once spotted him walking across the Capitol lawn carrying a pink box.
“I said, What are you doing?’ And he said, I’m going to [Sen.} Jim Webb’s wife’s baby shower,'” she says.
And since Elle is a fashion rag, reporter Lisa DePaulo does touch on Klobuchar’s style.
“She’s wearing one of the variations of the Amy outfit — today it’s black pants instead of the black skirt, and a pale pink blazer,” DePaulo writes. “She looks pretty. Ha!’ she says. I understand now why Hillary Clinton always wore navy blue pantsuits. Remember, for four years? If you have one or two themes, then you have the same shoes, the same bag. Otherwise, it’s a nightmare. Because you don’t have time for all the …’ she waves her hands. “Of course, she had more help, I think.'”
