Stupak Intends to Run Again

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) told the Detroit Free Press on Wednesday that he still intends to run for re-election, even though he has not made a final decision.

Stupak, the leader of a bloc of anti-abortion-rights House Democrats who cut the key deal with the White House that cleared the way for passage of the health care overhaul last month, has angered activists on both sides of the issue.

Stupak told the paper that he still needs to sit down with his family before making a final decision on a 10th term.

Stupak has also received calls in recent days from senior House Democrats who are hoping he will run for re-election, according to a Democratic aide. Stupak, who earlier considered a run for governor, had told Roll Call that if he did not run, Democrats would lose the seat.
