Photo From the Attic: Big Pyle of Work

[IMGCAP(1)]Sen. Gladys Pyle is seen on her first day of work in 1938. The South Dakota Republican had one of the briefest Senate tenures on record: After several years in state elective offices, she won a special election to replace Sen. Herbert Hitchcock in November 1938 and served for just two months. Pyle went on to have a long career in the insurance industry, and she died in 1989 at the age of 98.
