HOH’s One-Minute Recess: And Baby Makes Four

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and her husband, Brian, are expecting a daughter, the Washington Republican announced on Twitter late Monday night.

“Brian and I are excited to announce we’re expecting; Cole will have a baby sister for Christmas,” McMorris Rodgers tweeted.

The impending arrival will be the second child for the couple. McMorris Rodgers gave birth to son Cole in April 2007, becoming the first sitting Member of Congress in more than a decade to give birth while in office.

Cole was diagnosed with Down syndrome, and McMorris Rodgers has since championed Down syndrome causes, including helping to launch the Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus.

McMorris Rodgers also posted a lengthy message on her Facebook page about her pregnancy, writing, “There are no words to describe how excited we are that our family continues to grow under God’s care.”

“We feel very blessed to have the support of so many friends — like you — who have enriched our lives, and we appreciate your support — more so now than ever — as we prepare to add a new child to our loving home,” she writes.
