Stevens’ Burial to Be Held in Arlington Cemetery on Tuesday

Former Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Tuesday.

Stevens, a decorated World War II pilot and a President Pro Tem of the Senate, will be buried with honors. He died Aug. 9 at age 86 in a plane crash in southwestern Alaska.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who considered Stevens a mentor, will not attend the burial, according to the Associated Press. She told the AP that Stevens’ widow encouraged her to stay in Alaska to work on her write-in campaign for re-election. Murkowski spoke at his funeral, which was held Aug. 18 in Anchorage.
