Sixteen years ago, the Republican revolution and a wave of historic proportions swept the GOP to power. Republicans netted a gain of 52 House seats and eight Senate seats, and not a single Republican incumbent lost. Georgia Rep. Newt Gingrich became the first GOP Speaker in 40 years. Party switchers, such as Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby, were also a big story after the 1994 blowout. Who might switch parties after tonight? For a new Congress and President Barack Obama, it is likely to be a whole new world again.
