Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-N.H.) has fallen to Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta in the Granite State’s 1st district. The Associated Press called the race with nearly 30 percent of precincts reporting and Guinta holding a 15-point lead.

The open-seat race to decide who will replace Rep. Paul Hodes (D) was too close to call as of 9:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, one vulnerable Democratic incumbent was able to hold on in Indiana. Sophomore Rep. Joe Donnelly (D), a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition, provided a glimmer of hope for Democrats by narrowly winning his northern Indiana district. Donnelly was the target of the NRCC’s first independent expenditure ad in September. He faced Republican state Rep. Jackie Walorski, who received an endorsement from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Elsewhere, state Sen. Diane Black (R) handily won the race to replace retiring Rep. Bart Gordon (D), an outcome that had been widely expected. With her victory over Democrat Brett Carter secure well before Election Day, Black started donating to other Republican candidates in October.
