Former Sen. Russ Feingold has landed in academia following his upset loss in November.

The Wisconsin Democrat will join Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee as a visiting professor in the spring 2011 semester, according to a statement released by the university Wednesday.

Feingold and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas were the only two Democratic Senators unseated in the Nov. 2 midterm elections. He had initially been viewed as a safe bet for re-election but lost to Republican Ron Johnson.

Feingold will teach the elective course “Current Legal Issues: The U.S. Senate” to upper-level law students.

“As I looked at beginning to write the next chapter of my professional life, the opportunity to be in a Wisconsin classroom with engaged law students is one I found very appealing,” he said in the statement. “Marquette Law School is a dynamic place, and I look forward to being part of it.”

He also plans to begin work on a book while at the university, the statement said.
