The Radio-Television Correspondents’ Association announced Tuesday that it will change the name of its yearly formal gala from the Radio-Television Correspondents’ Dinner to the all-encompassing Congressional Correspondents’ Dinner. The move opens ticket sales of the 67th annual soiree sponsored by the association to members of the print and photographers’ Congressional galleries for the first time.

Peter Slen, chairman of the association and the dinner, tells HOH that the group voted last year to make the change. The dinner is scheduled for March 30 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Slen was mum on VIP attendees, although he said President Barack Obama, Vice President Joseph Biden and members of Congressional leadership have been invited. Slen also promised that there will be entertainment — although he didn’t provide any details.

Typically scheduled a few weeks before the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, the soiree is usually one of the highlights of D.C.’s lengthy formal season. More than 2,000 people attended last year’s event, which featured a uproarious stand-up comedy performance from Biden. The veep joked about everybody from Obama to Liz Cheney to Tiger Woods.

“The job does have some perks, like when Tiger Woods came to see me and gave me some tips,” Biden joked of being vice president. “Hey guys, they were golf tips.”
