The longest-serving Member of the House says he’ll run for a 29th full term in 2012.
 
Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) told the Detroit News on Thursday that he’ll run again. Dingell, 84, was first elected in December 1955 to succeed his father after he died. He’s now the third oldest Member of the House, behind Reps. Ralph Hall (R-Texas) and Roscoe Bartlett (R-Md.).

“It’s the greatest job in the world,” Dingell told the paper. “I can help people and … make things better, and I represent some of the finest people on Earth. The people in southeast Michigan are nothing short of wonderful.”

Dingell won his 2010 campaign by 17 points. The former chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has never had much trouble winning an election in his southeastern Michigan district.

Michigan will lose one of its 15 seats in 2012 because of reapportionment, but the Congressman said he isn’t worried about it.
 
“I’ve had three bad redistrictings, and I’ve survived every one of them despite predictions to the contrary,” Dingell said, according to the Detroit News.
 
Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.) will also run for re-election, the article added.
