Lofgren Quits Ethics Committee
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (Calif.) has vacated the top Democratic seat on the House Ethics Committee less than three weeks after she returned to the panel for the 112th Congress, Democratic sources confirmed Tuesday.
Democratic aides had indicated earlier this month that the California lawmaker’s return was a temporary one and that she was not expected to serve a full two-year term on the Ethics Committee, which she chaired in the previous Congress.
Democrats had not immediately announced a replacement or named any other members to the Ethics panel.
“An announcement will be made at the appropriate time,” said Nadeam Elshami, spokesman for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
